MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM OVERVIEW @ ALFRED S. FAUST:

All children can succeed. Our goal is to add counseling services into the equation of student success. Research shows that comprehensive school counseling programs have a positive and measurable impact on student achievement. Middle school is an exciting yet challenging time for students, their guardians and educators! During this passage from childhood to adolescence, middle schoolers have a need to explore a variety of interests, ways to connect with peers and search for their own unique identity. They tend to have a heavy reliance on their peers to provide comfort, understanding and approval. Counseling services can help identify students' academic and social/emotional needs, as well as provide them with any necessary interventions that are essential in removing barriers to learning and succeeding socially, emotionally and behaviorally.

The counseling program seeks to provide education, prevention and intervention to help teach students the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for academic, career and social-emotional development. The more practice our students have with applying learning strategies, self-management techniques and social skills, the more well-adjusted and successful they will be! In alignment with the school's focus of providing our students with a high quality education in a positive learning environment, where we encourage our students to always try their best to succeed in our world today and in their future endeavors, counseling services support that focus by targeting the domains of academic development, college and career readiness and social-emotional development.
