The following is New Jersey State Legislation that applies to all content areas K-8:
- Amistad K-12 (N.J.S.A. 18A 52:16A-88) Every board of education shall incorporate the information regarding the contributions of African-Americans to our country in an appropriate place in the curriculum of elementary and secondary school students.
To infuse the history of Africans and African-Americans into the social studies curriculum to provide an accurate, complete, and inclusive account.
To ensure that New Jersey teachers can effectively teach the revised social studies core curriculum content standards.
To create and coordinate workshops, seminars, institutes, memorials, and events that raise public awareness about the importance of the history of African-Americans to the growth and development of American society in a global context.
- Holocaust and Genocide K-12 (N.J.S.A. 18A:35-28) Every board of education shall include instruction on the Holocaust and genocides in an appropriate place in the curriculum of all elementary and secondary school pupils. The instruction shall further emphasize the personal responsibility that each citizen bears to fight racism and hatred whenever and wherever it happens.

Goals: We have developed comprehensive goals and initiatives to promote equality, respect, and understanding. Our objectives are as follows:
Foster a Safe and Inclusive School Climate: We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability status. Our schools will be free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment. We will train staff and students on respecting diversity, promoting empathy, and creating inclusive spaces.

Supportive Services and Resources: We will ensure that appropriate support services and resources are available to meet the needs of L.G.B.T. students and students with disabilities. This includes access to counseling services, specialized instruction, accommodation, and assistive technologies. We will collaborate with community organizations and agencies to provide additional support and resources when needed.

- Diversity and Inclusion (N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.36a): Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, each school district shall incorporate instruction on diversity and inclusion in an appropriate place in the curriculum of students in grades kindergarten through 12 as part of the District's implementation of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. The instruction shall: (1) highlight and promote diversity, including economic diversity, equity, inclusion, tolerance, and belonging in connection with gender and sexual orientation, race and ethnicity, disabilities, and religious tolerance; (2) examine the impact that unconscious bias and economic disparities have at both an individual level and on society as a whole; and (3) encourage safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments for all students regardless of race or ethnicity, sexual and gender identities, mental and physical disabilities, and religious beliefs.

At East Rutherford District, we are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change.
Goals: The East Rutherford School District is committed to aligning with the New Jersey climate change mandate and ensuring that our students receive comprehensive education on this critical issue. With this in mind, we have developed a set of climate change goals that will guide our curriculum and initiatives throughout the K-12 grade levels:
Raise Awareness and Understanding: Our primary goal is to increase awareness and understanding of climate change among students at all grade levels. We will provide age-appropriate information and resources that help students grasp the scientific concepts, causes, and impacts of climate change.
