Dear Parents and Friends:
As the new Director of Student Services it is my honor to become a member of this great school community. So far, through shared interactions it is evident that the East Rutherford school district is a closely knitted learning community where best interest of students is the central focus.
Prior to joining East Rutherford District, I functioned as a self- contained teacher for students on the spectrum, a special education Resource Room Pull Out and Inclusion teacher as well as Supervisor of Special Services in a previous district.
As an educational leader, my philosophy is deeply embedded in the belief of consistently demonstrating high ethical standards. It is my hope that by being open and honest I will engender your trust.
I am also a strong advocate of creating an environment that is driven by team work and collaboration. The power of concocting and promoting a collaborative learning environment amongst staff members and students is of colossal importance as collaborative partnerships need to exist between all members of staff to ensure a high and effective level of instructional practices school-wide. I also believe that this process of collaboration should extend toward the broader community.
The Student Services Department will continue the outstanding tradition of being dedicated to serving the young people in our schools as well as broader community. As a team, we will continue to implement research-based classroom practices designed to improve academic outcomes and behavioral performance for all students; offering a full continuum of special education and related services in the least restrictive environment to children from age 3 until their completion of the 8th grade and supporting their subsequent high school transition. We will continue partnering with parents to promote the collaboration among the school, home, and community enabling all students to achieve throughout their educational careers and beyond.
Finally, I can assure you that I am flexible in my leadership style as well as my decision making process. It is important to me to ensure that all members of the school community feel that their views and ideas are valued. I also like to characterize myself as a life- long learner and as such is eager to learn alongside all of you in order to further enhance the success of the district.
With Warmest Regards,
Sharon King-Dobson
